A councilor aspirant was reported by the police to have died in a vehicular crash on Tuesday, along the road of Hacienda Carmenchita in Barangay Don Salvador Benedicto, Pontevedra, Negros Occidental.
The victim, identified as John Espinosa, 54, a candidate for the position of councilor in Pontevedra town, was declared dead on arrival at the Don Salvador Benedicto Memorial District Hospital in La Carlota City, according to the Pontevedra police.
Initial police investigations showed that the victim was on his way to Brgy. Antipolo when the Rusi motorcycle with a sidecar he was driving figured in a collision with an Isuzu truck driven by a certain Jose Malicsi.
The collision took place after the motorcycle driven by Espinosa partially occupied the opposite lane being used by the vehicle driven by Malicsi, investigations of the Pontevedra police further indicated.
Both vehicles suffered damage as a result of the incident.
Malicsi is presently under the custody of the Pontevedra Police Station, pending further investigation of the road crash.*
