Cleaning and disinfection at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital is underway as show in this photo of Ma. Karen Lataquin Lechoncito posted on the CLMMRH Facebook page yesterday.*

There are now four doctors and two nurses at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod City who have tested positive for COVID-19, Dr. Julius Drilon, CLMMRH chief, said yesterday.

Drilon also said 59 health care workers and 21 patients at the CLMMRH, who were tagged as close contacts of those hit by the virus, tested negative yesterday.

Those who tested negative will remain in quarantine for another 10 days as a safety precaution, Drilon said.

He said 27 more health care workers will be tested for COVID-19 today.

Eighty-eight CLMMRH staff remain quarantined for high risk exposure so hospital operations cannot fully normalize yet, he explained.

The CLMMRH outpatient department will be closed until further notice, while no new patients are being accepted at the hospital’s Obstetrics and Gynecology Department, and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, he said.

Drilon also said only extreme emergency surgeries are being conducted at the hospital for now.

He said the outpatient department was closed for disinfection after a female hemodialysis patient from Talisay City tested positive for the virus.

The patient who was coughing and has chronic renal disease was admitted, and a chest x-ray showed that she had pneumonia that led to her being tested for the virus which turned out positive, Drilon said.

Her fellow patients at the medical ward and the hospital staff were swabbed for COVID-19 testing.

Meanwhile, he said the four doctors are believed to have been infected by a male patient from Barangay 14, who was treated for chest trauma and found to be positive for COVID-19.

Two days after examination, the patient underwent a chest x-ray and was found to have pneumonia prompting him to be tested for COVID-19, Drilon said.

All doctors and nurses are asymptomatic and hospital quarantined, he said.

The outpatient department will be closed until further notice because CLMMRH protocols have to be reviewed, he said.

“It is very evident that there is community transmission in Bacolod City and Negros Occidental so we have to formulate new protocols in screening patients and staff”, he said.

“We will revise our personal safety protocols,” he also said.

CLMMRH currently has 260 admitted patients, he said.*
