Covid hits 5th SRA employee

BY MARCHEL P. ESPINA

A fifth employee of the Sugar Regulatory Administration in Bacolod City was hit by the coronavirus disease.

This was confirmed by two DAILY STAR sources in the agency, adding that they found out that the worker was positive for the virus on Friday.

Employees who reached out to DAILY STAR have expressed concern as they continue to report for work and that the office was not locked down for disinfection.

SRA Administrator Hermenegildo Serafica said, “Proper health protocols, including contact tracing and regular disinfection procedures, are being observed by the agency to ensure that employees and stakeholders alike are shielded from the virus. SRA instills among its employees the precept of pro-actively combating not only the virus, but the fear of it.”

In fact, webinars on Covid-19 have been rolled out in order for employees to better understand the pandemic, and the measures to flatten the curve by flattening the fear, he said.

“The lives of employees and stakeholders are of paramount concern. Work-from-home schemes are also followed. While SRA is fully cognizant of the ill-effects of the virus, it is of the view that with the observance proper health protocols, employees need not cower in fear,” Serafica added.

Two weeks ago, Serafica issued a memorandum that barred officers and employees from disclosing Covid-19 cases in their agency to the media.*
