Crimes perpetrated by Motorcycle Riding Suspects (MRS) significantly decreased by 49.2 percent in the past eight months of 2020 compared to the same period last year, regional police spokesman, Lt Col. Joem Malong, said yesterday.
Citing data of the Regional Investigation and Detective Management Division (RIDMD), Malong reported a big drop on Eight Focus Crimes perpetrated by MRS that was 126 last year, to 64 this year with a difference of 62 cases.
Murder incidents also dropped from 40 to 27, homicide from 3 to zero, physical injuries from 28 to 16, robbery from 30 to 10, motorcycle thefts from seven to two, and theft from 15 to six, while rape remains at three, a report of the RIDMD also said.
Malong attributed the crime volume reduction to the Enhanced Managing Police Operations, deployment of police personnel in Quarantine Control Points, and the Focused Police Operation or program “Birada Semana” aimed at boosting the operational accomplishments of Police Regional Office 6 that impedes the use of loose firearms in perpetrating crimes.
She also said that the cooperation of the general public and the help of the media in promoting crime prevention are also essential in the reduction of crime incidents.*
