A 17-year-old girl died on Monday morning after allegedly being mauled by her own father with a steel pipe, inside their home in Barangay Rizal, Sagay City, Negros Occidental.
The victim, identified as alias ‘Precious,’ was declared dead on arrival at the Alfredo E. Marañon Sr. Memorial District Hospital, following the incident.
The discovery was made around 9:40 a.m. after the suspect’s father, Jose Braza, personally reported to the Sagay City Police Station that his son had forcibly locked his teenaged granddaughter inside their residence.
Upon entering the home, they found the young victim lying prone on the floor in a pool of her own blood, while the suspect, 41-year-old tricycle driver Joedin Braza, was seated silently on a bed, staring at his daughter’s body.
Initial police investigations suggest that a misunderstanding between the father and daughter triggered the attack.
Investigations revealed the suspect had been suffering from depression and allegedly had not slept for a week. The police noted he had no known history of substance abuse.
Braza is currently held at the Sagay City Component City Police Station, where he faces charges for parricide.*
