Seventeen visual artists under the Art Association of Bacolod-Negros are currently showcasing artworks they have produced daily for three months, at the AAB-N Gallery+Cafe at the Art District in Brgy. Mandalagan, Bacolod City.
The show, titled “Daily Paintings-1st Quarter Exhibit”, started June 18 and will run until July 2.
AAB-N president Leah Divino-Samson said they came up with this new activity since they cannot gather for their Sunday sketching sessions for now, which they have been conducting for almost two years, due to the pandemic.
Samson said that, instead of remaining inactive in their homes, they thought of this activity so they can continue to be productive and, at the same time, be able to hone their painting skills everyday.
Aside from improving the quality of their works, this is also one way of coping with the pandemic that may cause depression.
The small works produced by the artists, which they can finish in one sitting, can give new art collectors a chance to avail of these art pieces at an affordable price, without sacrificing the quality of the works, she said.
The artworks produced by the artists from March, April and May have been posted daily on the Facebook page of the AAB-N.
The participating artists are Samson, Rodney Martinez, Edbon Sevilleno, Dennis Valenciano, Julia Lopue, Ma. Jimenez, Svet Tan-Sevilleno, Gigi Villamor, Charlaine Barrido, Janna Remus, Dr. Rachel Tenepre-Gonzales, JM Valenciano, Mike Borromeo, Rene Gonzaga, Ryn Paul Gonzales, and Revo Yanson.
Meanwhile, Samson said the AAB-N will celebrate its 46th anniversary on July 4 with an online exhibit of artworks of its active and non-active members.
She is inviting all members to submit a maximum of two artworks for the anniversary exhibit, on or before June 28.*
