Murder charges have been filed by the police against a suspect before the Himamaylan Regional Trial Court on January 25, in connection with the death of a Bacolod City policeman.
PCapt. Ryan Villasario, Hinigaran police chief, yesterday identified the respondent in the murder case, as Constancio Canoy, a companion of slain policeman, PCpl. Nestor Madelo.
The cadaver of Madelo, an investigator of the Bacolod City Police Office Station 5, was found beside a sugarcane plantation on Jan. 23 in Brgy. Pilar, Hinigaran. He succumbed to fatal injury in the left side of his face, and had other minor injuries.
Villasario claimed that Canoy had the intention to kill Madelo, since he did not bring the police officer, who was injured in a vehicular accident in Brgy. Sum-ag, Bacolod City, to a hospital.
Instead, he brought the injured police officer to Hinigaran, bypassing medical facilities along the way, the police chief added.
Based on results of post mortem examinations, Madelo died due to traumatic head injury caused by a blunt object, Villasario further said.
Police investigations show that Canoy was driving a Carry vehicle, with Madelo as the passenger, when they figured in an accident.
On the other hand, the family of the late PCpl. Joebert Diasanta received partial payment of insurance claims in the amount of P121,000 from the Public Safety Mutual Benefit Fund Inc. (PSMBFI).
Diasanta, a member of the Silay City Police Station, died December 25 last year due to a fire incident in Talisay City.
PCol. Leo Pamittan, provincial police director of Negros Occidental, assisted by PSMBFI representative Aldrin Dumalaos and Police Executive Master Sergeant Reynaldo Panes, turned over the financial assistance to Uldarico and Virginia Diasanta at Camp Alfredo Montelibano Sr. in Bacolod City.*
