Seventy-two defective weighing scales at the public market of Cadiz City, Negros Occidental. were destroyed yesterday by the City Government in an effort to protect consumers from dishonest market traders.
This is also in line with the celebration of the Consumer’s Welfare Month in October 2022.
The destruction of defective weighing scales, through the use of a road roller, was witnessed Rachel Nufable, other city government executives, and local police officers.
The weighing scales were confiscated by the Market Operations Division Composite Team during a series of surprise inspections at the City Public Market in the past four months.
In a statement, the city government said the confiscation was in response to numerous and recurring complaints from consumers, on inaccurate weight measurement of some products at the market.*
