“Finally, justice is served.”

This was stressed by reelectionist Gov. Roel Ragay Degamo after he was proclaimed the winning candidate and duly elected governor of Negros Oriental by the Special Provincial Board of Canvasser (SPBOC).

The Negros Oriental SPBOC chaired by chaired by Atty. John Rex Laudiangco, with Atty. Genesis Gatdula as vice chairperson and Director Celia Romero as a member, convened at Comelec central office in Manila on October 3, in compliance with the order issued by the Commission on Elections En Banc.

The Comelec En Banc reaffirmed the resolution of its Second Division denying due course and cancelling the certificate of candidacy of Grego Degamo, who was declared on September 27 as a nuisance candidate.

The Commission also annulled the proclamation of Henry Pryde Teves as governor of Negros Oriental, credited the votes obtained by Grego Degamo in favor of Roel Ragay Degamo, amend or correct, the Certificate of Canvass of Votes and Proclamation for the Provincial Governor of Negros Oriental, based on the Amended Statement of Votes, and proclaim the candidate who obtained the highest number of votes.

Grego Degamo, whose real name is Grego Gaudia, used the name of Ruel Degamo, in the ballots, where he got 49,039 votes. This prompted Roel Ragay Degamo to file a petition to transfer the votes garnered by his almost namesake to him.

After the final recount, Degamo got 331,726 votes, including those transferred from Ruel Degamo, while Teves had 301,319, and 45,454 votes of Doc Mark Macias

We hereby proclaim the herein winning candidate, Roel Ragay Degamo, as the duty elected Governor of Negros Oriental, the SPBOC said.

Degamo, in his social media account, thanked his supporters in Negros Oriental.

The SPBOC canvassed the votes cast in 1,471 clustered precincts for the position of governor in Negros Oriental.*
