While dengue cases in Negros Occidental are on a downward trend, the Provincial Health Office recorded four deaths as of June 10, acting Provincial Health Officer Dr. Girlie Pinongan reported yesterday.
Pinongan disclosed that dengue deaths were reported in cities of Himamaylan, Silay, and San Carlos, as well as in Calatrava.
Dengue cases in Negros Occidental were reported by PHO to be at 557 for the period from January to June 10, which is a reduction of 55.33 percent compared to last year.
Among the 31 municipalities and component cities of Negros Occidental, San Carlos has the greatest number of dengue cases at 77, while EB Magalona has the highest increase in percentage of dengue cases, at 66.67 percent.
Negros Occidental also recorded 66 cases of leptospirosis, Pinongan said, as she called on Negrenses to be vigilant against dengue and leptospirosis, with the start of rainy season.
In order to prevent being infected by such diseases, it still boils down to sanitation, she stressed.*
