An 11-year-old child was the third fatality of dengue in the highly urbanized city of Bacolod, according to reports of the City Health Office (CHO).
The minor, a resident of Barangay 16, died in August. 9, two days after she was treated in a hospital. She had been suffering from fever since August 4.
The two previous fatalities were an 18-year-old resident of Brgy. Estefania and a 68-year-old man from Brgy. Felisa, all in Bacolod City.
From January to Aug. 10 this year, the CHO logged 602 dengue cases, compared to 347 in the same period last year, registering an increase of 73.5 percent.
Barangays with highest dengue cases this year are Taculing – 77, Bata – 62, Villamonte – 43, Estefania and Mansilingan with 37 each, Cabug and Granada with 33 each, Alijis – 28, Mandalagan – 27, Banago and Sum-ag at 25 each, Tangub – 23, and Singcang with 21.
In Negros Occidental, the Provincial Health Office has logged 1,777 dengue cases, compared to 862 cases in the same period, registering an increase of 94.21 percent, with six deaths.*
