A woman political detainee at the Negros Occidental Provincial Jail yesterday called on the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) in Western Visayas to conduct an immediate and impartial investigation on the involuntary disappearance of her daughter and two habal-habal drivers from La Castellana town, since April 19.

In a letter dated May 20 to the CHR, Rossine Enyong of the Negros Occidental District Jail said that her daughter Lyngrace Marturillas, as well as habal-habal drivers Renel de los Santos and Denald Mialen, have not been located since they were abducted and went missing 40 days ago, somewhere along the Aranda-La Castellana road in Hinigaran town, a press release from Kapatid-Negros Occidental said.

Their fourth companion in the abduction incident, alleged CPP-Negros leader Roger Posadas, was surfaced dead by the military two days after, conveniently declared a casualty in a supposed armed clash with the NPA in Binalbagan town, it added.

“Bilang isa ka iloy, indi malikawan ang akon grabing kabalaka amo mangayo kami sa inyo sa paghimo sang kaugalingong pag-imbistiga angot sa panghitabo (As a mother, I cannot help but worry so I am asking for an investigation into what happened),” Enyong said in her letter to the CHR.

“Subong sa ika-40 ka adlaw sang ila pagkadula, padayon kami nga nagalaum nga makita kag makabalita kami sa mga nadula namon nga mga kabataan ug mahatagan sila sang nagakaigo nga hustisya (40 days after they disappeared, we are hopeful that they will be found and get information on the missing people, and justice be delivered,” she added.

The letter Enyong sent to the CHR in Western Visayas was also furnished to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) for proper action.

Fellow political prisoners of Enyong at the provincial jail also conducted a dawn-to-dusk fast yesterday to express their support for what they call “the latest victims of the AFP’s mindless and futile drive to end the insurgency in the country at the expense of human rights and international humanitarian law,” the press release added.*
