DHSBNHS students shine at Chief Girl Scout Medals

The Girl Scouts of the Philippines (GSP) recently hosted the prestigious Chief Girl Scout Medal Presentation Ceremony on November 19 at the Plenary Hall of the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City. The annual event honors exceptional girl scouts who have completed meaningful community projects that embody leadership, service, and the spirit of bayanihan.

Among the 919 awardees nationwide, five Junior High School students from Doña Hortencia Salas Benedicto National High School (DHSBNHS) in La Carlota City, Negros Occidental, stood out as Chief Girl Scout Medal recipients. Under the guidance of School Principal Dr. Erle Arbado, GSP Division Coordinator Mithos Hiponia, ASDS Dr. Jen-Ann Rosal, and SDS Dr. Ermi Miranda, the young leaders – Marie Jamiela Carriedo, Charlize Marie Demegillo, Jewel Elicanal, Rhuf Paderna, and Zion Faith Alcantara – were recognized for their outstanding community projects that addressed ecology, health, livelihood, and cultural heritage.

Accompanied by their proud parents and troop leaders Denice Pearl Mutya, Aimee Frias, Anna Dela Peles, and Rochelle Pastias, the awardees received their medals during the ceremony. Their dedication to one-year community projects showcases the power of youth-driven initiatives to create lasting impacts on rural communities.

The Chief Girl Scout Medal is the highest honor bestowed under the GSP program. It is awarded to Girl Scouts who demonstrate extraordinary commitment and leadership in service, making a tangible difference in the lives of others. The DHSBNHS awardees exemplify this standard, serving as role models for their peers and inspiring other Girl Scouts to pursue meaningful change.

Adding inspiration to the event, First Lady and Chief Girl Scout Liza Araneta Marcos delivered an uplifting message, emphasizing the importance of service and leadership in nation-building.

DHSBNHS continues to cultivate a culture of excellence achieving milestones that highlight the school’s commitment to holistic education and community engagement.

The event was a celebration not only of individual achievements but also of the collective efforts of the Girl Scouts of the Philippines to nurture empowered young women dedicated to creating a better tomorrow.*
