A new dialysis clinic with state-of-the-art facilities held its grand opening yesterday in Bacolod City.
ENVIVO Dialysis Center at the corner of Lopez Jaena and Ipil-Ipil streets, Bacolod City is ready to open its doors to dialysis patients pending the approval of its PhilHealth accreditation.
A tour of the facility was held yesterday after the blessing by Monsigñor Quijano of the Garden of Love and its facilities.
ENVIVO CEO Dr. Carissa Dumancas-Alvarez yesterday said it was her mother, Ginnette Yanson-Dumancas who convinced her to shift from Cardiology to Nephrology after being told of the difficulties dialysis patients had to undergo to get the treatment.
Meanwhile, it was her father, Charles Dumancas who pushed her to apply at Mayo Clinic, which is the number one hospital in America where she got accepted in its top program. It was where she got exposed to the best mentors who helped shape her and taught her how to run a dialysis unit, she said.
Dumancas-Alvarez recalled that upon learning of her plans to come home, her grandmother, Olivia Yanson called her up and encouraged her to put up a dialysis center in their property (old southbound Ceres terminal) in shopping saying “the city won’t allow her to put up a new terminal in the area due to a zoning ordinance.”
Being a nurse by profession, it is my grandmother’s passion to help the less fortunate, she said. “When she learned of their suffering and the inconvenience they have to undergo, she was moved, so she gave me her blessing to convert the place into a dialysis clinic.”
Although she owns the company, she did not do it alone, she said as she acknowledged her parents and the people who showed their support and dedication in making the facility a reality. She hopes her parents are pleased with what she has achieved having no background in business or construction.
Dumancas-Alvarez also hopes her grandfather, Ricardo Yanson is also pleased because it was through him where she learned the lesson of “palabra de honor” (promise kept). She is honoring his legacy today by keeping her promise to return to help patients who need to undergo dialysis treatment.
On the other hand, Dr. Maricris Araneta, vice president for Medical Affairs, and head of ENVIVO Dialysis Unit, said that patients can expect comfort, respect, and above all, care that comes first. They already want to open their doors to dialysis patients but are just waiting for their PhilHealth accreditation.*
