DILG head Remulla to lead PRO NIR activation

• GILBERT P. BAYORAN

All is set for the activation of Police Regional Office – Negros Island Region (NIR) on March 27 at the Acacia Hotel in Bacolod City.

PBrig. Jack Wanky, regional police director of Western Visayas, disclosed on Tuesday that Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla will lead the activation of PRO-NIR. Expected also to attend the activation ceremony is Philippine National Police chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil.

Wanky, who led on Tuesday’s inauguration and blessing of new La Castellana Police Station in Negros Occidental, said the entire forces of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, Bacolod City Police, and existing Regional Mobile Force Battalion 6 units stationed in the province, will be placed under the supervision of PRO-NIR.

The Negros Oriental and Siquijor Police Provincial Offices will also be placed under the supervision of PRO- NIR.

At present, NORPPO and BCPO are under the supervision of Police Regional Office 6 while NORPPO and Siquijor PPOs are being supervised by Police Regional Office 7.

Wanky said the incoming PRO – NIR chief and its regional staff will be announced on March 27.

In previous months, PNP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo said police personnel who would be affected by the deactivation of the Area Police Command, formerly known as the Directorate for Integrated Police Operations, might be transferred to the PRO-NIR.

Republic Act 12000, signed by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. in June last year, created an administrative region comprising Negros Occidental, including the highly urbanized Bacolod City, Negros Oriental, and Siquijor.*
