The use of enamel paint and water guns during the Dinagsa Festival in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental, has been strictly prohibited by the local government unit.

The “Lamhitanay sa Dalan” on January 29, which is among the highlights of the Dinagsa Festival, involves the smearing of paint among revelers.

Cadiz City Mayor Salvador Escalante Jr. yesterday called on those joining the festival to use water-based paints, which can be easily removed, compared to enamel paints.

Escalante said they have deployed personnel to implement his order to seize enamel paints being used by violators.

The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office deployed 84 police personnel in Cadiz City to augment the city’s police force in the maintenance of peace and order.

Since the Dinagsa Festival started Jan. 21, Escalante said the celebration has been peaceful, as of this time, aside for vehicular accidents which have nothing to do with the festival.*
