Former Bacolod Councilor Caesar Distrito and two incumbent councilors of Bacolod City, who ran under the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC), announced that they are joining the camp of former Negros Occidental 3rd District congressman Albee Benitez Saturday.
In a virtual press conference, Distrito said he has accepted the invitation of Benitez, who is running for mayor of Bacolod, to be his running mate.
He will be running against incumbent Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran.
Distrito, a three-termer councilor under NPC, was joined by his mother, Simplicia Distrito, Bartolome Orola, and Pao Sy, the daughter of the late Elmer Sy, during the virtual press conference Saturday.
Caesar Distrito said he accepted the invitation of Benitez after consulting with his family, relatives, leaders and supporters especially in Brgy. Singcang and Mansungay.
Simplicia Distrito said she is joining the tandem of Benitez, who will be running for mayor, and her son Caesar as she believes that their partnership can bring the much-needed growth and development that the city needs. The combination of development-oriented programs and experiences in governance.
She thanked Mayor Evelio Leonardia for giving her the chance to run as councilor in 2019 under his ticket. “We will take our separate ways without rancor or ill-feelings,” she added.
Meanwhile, Orola said he decided to join Benitez after he explained to him his plans for Bacolod especially the rehabilitation of the three major markets.
As chairman of the Sangguniang Panlungsod Committee on Markets and Slaughterhouse, Orola said that is his advocacy and the reason he is seeking re-election.
Sy, on the other hand, said she wants to continue the public service her father has started with “less talk, more action”.*
