The Municipal Government of Hinigaran in Negros Occidental urged the Department of Works and Highways (DPWH) 2nd Engineering District Office to fast track the ongoing construction of road along national highway, which has caused heavy traffic and inconvenience to travelers.
A statement released on Saturday, signed by Hinigaran Mayor Grace Arceo, expressed dissatisfaction, saying “the pace of work suggests that the project is not being treated as a priority.”
The municipal government had received a series of complaints from the public that the ongoing construction has caused road blockage and public frustration.
“The affected road section is a major national highway. It serves daily commuters, public utility vehicles, cargo trucks, emergency vehicles, and travelers passing through Hinigaran. Complaints from motorists and residents have significantly increased, especially during the current holiday rush when traffic volume is at its peak,” the letter stated.
The Municipal Government also urged the DPWH to direct the contractor of the project “to accelerate construction activities, strictly enforce the approved work schedule, and ensure continuous work until completion.”
“We expect strict enforcement of the approved work schedule and immediate continuous construction until completion. Public safety and mobility come first,” Arceo stressed.*
