Dredging of Mambuloc Creek to start

Dredging activities at Mambuloc Creek behind the Amaia Steps condominiums in Brgy. 8, Bacolod City will start this week to ease flooding at the downtown area.

Executive assistant Joemarie Vargas, who is also the cluster head of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, said the dredging at Mambuloc Creek is urgent as several areas at the downtown area is affected whenever water overflows from it during heavy downpours.

Vargas said that usually, floodwater from the creek affects areas in barangays 2, 8, 10, 12, SM City Mall, and portion of the public plaza.

He said the CDRRMO, together with the City Legal Office, is set to meet with Brgy. 8 Captain Johanna Magalona to discuss the dredging plan and the issues on illegal settlers near the creek.

MANDALAGAN RIVER, TOO

Aside from the Mambuloc Creek, the CDRRMO is also set to conduct dredging at Mandalagan River to prevent flooding along Lacson Street, especially in front of Robinsons mall, and the Capitol Ville Subdivision.

The CDRRMO will use its new Hidromek amphibious dredger, worth P28 million, that the city government bought from Europe in 2019.

Meanwhile, the CDRRMO is continuously monitoring several areas in Bacolod after floods hit them Friday.

Affected areas with one to two feet high floods were barangays 2 and 3, Purok Masinadyahon in Brgy. Bata, puroks Santol and Carvic in Brgy. Mandalagan, Parreno Street in Brgy. 28, GK Village in Brgy. Banago, Hernaez Extension near the Bacolod City High School in Brgy. Taculing, and Araneta Street from the flyover down to Gaisano City mall in Brgy. Singcang.

POWER OUTAGES

Different areas in Bacolod City also experienced outage yesterday due to the bad weather, the Central Negros Electric Cooperative said.

At 10:40 a.m., the 69-kv line of Ceneco in Brgy. Alijis was hit by a Gmelina tree and caused power interruption in the area.

Ceneco’s 69kv line at the boundary of Bacolod and Murcia also tripped off yesterday.

Residents of Puentebella Subdivision also experienced power outage after a tree fell on Ceneco’s primary line in the area.

The Bacolod-Silay 69kV line automatically tripped off also and resulted to power outages in Talisay and Silay and portions of northern Bacolod, although it was restored shortly.

Meanwhile, Vargas said residents may call the city’s emergency hotline 911 or telephone numbers 432-3871 to 73 and the CRRDMO’s 432-3879 and 709-1633 for help. He said residents may also call the Amity Volunteer Brigade at 433-3244, Chamber Volunteer Brigade at 432-0111, Bureau of Fire Protection at 434-5022/23, Red Cross at 435-0324, or the Bacolod Traffic Authority at 704-1443.*
