Drug angle eyed in Bacolod shooting

• THERESA MAE DULMAN

The Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) is looking into illegal drugs as a possible motive behind the fatal shooting of a 43-year-old man at a computer shop in Rachel Store, San Jose 2, Barangay Sum-ag, early Monday morning.

The victim, identified only by his alias ‘Butsoy,’ was a resident of Purok San Miguel in the said barangay.

In a phone patch interview, BCPO Director PCol. Eugene Rebadomia said they are now investigating the victim’s previous affiliations and conducting an intelligence background check on the victim who was shot by an unidentified gunman that approached and opened fire at him multiple times at close range.

Following the attack, the shooter quickly fled the scene heading west, escaping on a scooter-type motorcycle driven by a waiting companion.

The victim was rushed to the Bacolod South General Hospital, but was pronounced dead at around 2:20 a.m. by the attending physician.

A team from the Scene of the Crime Operatives processed the crime scene and recovered seven fired cartridge cases and four spent bullets, all suspected to be from a .45 caliber pistol.

Bacolod City police are currently conducting follow-up operations and reviewing nearby security footage to identify the shooter and the getaway driver.*
