Authorities confirmed that the supply of illegal drugs in Bacolod City is gradually declining, citing that the prevailing street price became higher as they aim to mitigate the issue during the MassKara festival.
Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) Director PCol. Joeresty Coronica said that according to their monitoring, because of their constant efforts against illegal drugs, the current supply in the city has been facing scarcity, compared to previous months.
“The prevailing price of drugs in the city had been increased, which means the supply had lessened, and it had a hard time entering the city,” he stressed.
When asked regarding the possible entry of drugs into the city during the MasKara Festival since more tourists will be coming in, Coronica clarified that they tightened their security measures to minimize the supply of drugs entering Bacolod.
“We cannot really eradicate illegal drugs, but we are trying to address the problem so that it will not turn into a bigger issue,” he said.
DPWH SECURITY
On the other hand, the BCPO is still conducting security measures outside the office of the Department of Ways and Highways (DPWH) Bacolod City District Engineering Office, due to security threats.
Coronica said they are checking the situation around the DPWH office from time to time, and conducting close monitoring for any suspicious or unlawful activities.
“From time to time we are checking the situation because we have to learn from experiences, and we have to be one step ahead in case something happens,” he explained.
Coronica clarified that the DPWH did not request the security measures, but the BCPO is only being vigilant.
Various progressive groups in Bacolod City have been expressing their anger and indignation regarding the wide-open corruption on the anomalous flood control projects in the country, and the DPWH has been a target of their ire.*
