A 56-year-old laborer was hacked to death by his older brother on Tuesday evening at Purok Detachment, Sitio Mambato, Barangay To-oy, Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental.
According to the victim’s live-in partner, she was having an argument with the victim inside their residence at the time of the incident.
The suspect, alias Roge, also 56 and the victim’s brother, was observed to be under the influence of intoxicating liquor. He was running amok outside their house, continuously striking the door and shouting invectives.
Angered by the disturbance, the victim went outside carrying a piece of wood and confronted the suspect.
The suspect then returned armed with a sugarcane cutter.
Police reports said that the victim struck the suspect with the piece of wood, prompting the suspect to retaliate by hacking the victim multiple times, hitting the head, neck, and various parts of the body.
The victim was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries.
Following the incident, the suspect fled the scene but was later apprehended after a hot pursuit operation conducted by Himamaylan PNP.*
