A drunk man who jumped into the river at Hda. Biaren, Barangay Linao in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, on September 19, was found floating lifelessly two days after, police reported.
According to the initial investigation, the victim was identified by his wife as John Audrey Magsila, 25, and a resident of Purok Cordova, Brgy. Bocana, Ilog.
PCapt. Sammy Gasataya said that the victim was having a drinking session with his companion, alias “Mio,” 21, a resident of Kabankalan City, when an altercation occurred between the two parties. Suddenly, the victim allegedly slammed his companion on the head with a shovel.
Alias “Mio,” according to his testimony, suffered a wound to his head, but is now in stable condition.
After the incident, the victim allegedly jumped into the river as his way of escaping.
Two days later, witnesses on a boat noticed an object floating in the river. Out of curiosity, they approached to check and discovered that it was the body of an unidentified male person, already in an advanced state of decomposition.
The witness then found a way to place the dead body on the river bank and reported it to the authorities. The cadaver was later brought to Sola Gracia Funeral Homes for post-mortem examination.*
