One died, while another suffered gunshot wounds after their companion pulled the trigger against them on Sunday evening at Purok Masinulundon, Sitio Macabal-ong, Barangay Magsaysay, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental.
The victims were identified only by their age, as the deceased was a 43-year-old male, while the injured was his older brother, age 44. Police said that the victims were brothers by blood and residents of the said barangay.
Initial investigation revealed that, according to the witnesses, the victims were under the influence of liquor when a heated argument ensued between them and the suspect, identified as a 43-year-old with the alias ‘Luis’, also a resident of the same barangay.
Based on the accounts of witnesses, the victims allegedly shot at the suspect with unidentified firearms in the middle of the altercation.
The suspect retaliated by firing back with a .45 caliber pistol, which resulted in the victims sustaining gunshot wounds on different parts of their bodies.
After the victims were rushed to the hospital, authorities reported that the 43-year-old victim was pronounced dead on arrival while the other victim was confined for further medical treatment.
The suspect was arrested and is currently under the custody of the Cadiz City Component Police Station for proper disposition, while the recovered firearm will undergo gun powder residue and ballistics examination, as well as firearm verification.*
