The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-Negros Occidental in coordination with the local government of San Carlos and Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity (OPAPRU) conducted a Negosyo Serbisyo sa Barangay on June 15.

A total of 41 residents of Brgy. Prosperidad in San Carlos including KAPATIRAN members participated in the event at the barangay’s covered court.

Engr. Engiemar Tupas, Small Medium Enterprise Development Specialist of DTI-Negros Occidental, explained the functions of DTI as well as the objective of Negosyo Serbisyo sa Barangay, which is to inform every barangay on the different programs and services of the department.

Tupas emphasized that chosen areas this time focused on barangays identified as insurgency-cleared.

He also made clear that contrary to assumptions, the DTI has no control over the meat product price hike, but it is the Department of Agriculture that is the controlling authority on matters relating to meat products.

Mia Aujero, Negosyo Center-Trade and Industry Development Analyst of DTI NegOcc, explained the importance of a DTI Certificate and how to acquire it, while Melani Bayabos, Junior Business Counselor of DTI Negosyo Center-San Carlos, facilitated the basic entrepreneurship seminar which focused on additional knowledge on how to effectively run a business.

Nelsa Marie Ogatis, OPAPRU Project Development Officer II and Area Coordinator, encouraged everyone to register their respective business with the DTI.

Barangay Prosperidad Captain Lucio Tangayan and Alejandro Traya, one of the participants and a KAPATIRAN member, said the program is beneficial because of the shared ideas and procedures on how to manage a business.

Tangayan also thanked the recipients for attending the activity which could change their lives for the better.

Also present during the event were Raul Morales Jr., PAMANA Project Facilitator of the City Planning and Development Coordinator’s Office, and barangay kagawads Nestor Tranilla and Mario Masaba.*
