The Dumaguete City government donated three outboard motors (OBMs) to the Coast Guard District Southern Visayas (CGDSV), a move expected to enhance the Philippine Coast Guard’s operational readiness and maritime response capabilities in the region.
The turnover ceremony was led by Dumaguete City Mayor Manuel “Chiquiting” Sagarbarria, who formally handed over the equipment to Commodore Christopher Auro, commander of the CGDSV. Also present during the event was Lt. Marionne Abigail Enopia, station commander of the Coast Guard Station-Negros Oriental.
The additional outboard motors are expected to further strengthen the Coast Guard’s capacity to carry out maritime law enforcement operations, conduct search-and-rescue missions, and respond swiftly to emergencies at sea.
Auro expressed his gratitude to the Dumaguete City government for its continued support to the Coast Guard, particularly the Coast Guard Station-Negros Oriental.
“This assistance will significantly contribute to our efforts in safeguarding lives at sea and ensuring maritime security in the region,” he said.
Sagarbarria emphasized that the donation reflects the city government’s commitment to public service, emergency preparedness, and coastal security.
He noted that strengthening the operational capability of maritime authorities is vital in ensuring the safety of coastal communities and the protection of marine resources.
The collaboration between the local government and the Philippine Coast Guard highlights the importance of partnership and shared responsibility in building a safer and more resilient maritime community in Central and Southern Visayas.
Sagarbarria said donation underscores the city government’s continuing support for initiatives that enhance disaster response, maritime safety, and law enforcement operations along its coastal areas.*
