E.B. Magalona in Negros Occidental, has retained its status of being a drug-cleared and drug-free municipality in Negros Occidental.
The declaration was made by the Regional Oversight Committee on Barangay Drug Clearing (ROC-BOC), following its deliberations on Wednesday, held via Zoom platform, that was joined by Atty. Pierra Lamayo, Municipal Local Government Operations Officer VI, PLt. John Symon Salvani, Secretary to the Mayor Joel Antonio, and the town barangay captains, among others.
The ROC-BOC reported the retention of drug cleared status of 22 barangays and one drug-free barangay status in E.B. Magalona, under the administration of Mayor Matthew Louis Malacon.
Last year, E.B. Magalona was also declared as a drug-cleared municipality, while under the leadership of former Mayor Marvin Malacon, who is now the town’s vice mayor.
In a statement, Mayor Malacon attributed it to the collaboration of Philippine Drug Enforcement, Philippine National Police, E.B. Magalona officials and other government agencies, using the whole-of-government and whole-of-community approaches, in addressing illegal drug activities at the barangay level.*
