The Office of Mayor Marvin Malacon, through the Municipal Agriculture Office, turned over the cheques worth a total of P21,700 in indemnity assistance to the eight farmers of E. B. Magalona, at rites at the Mayor’s Office on Sept. 21.

The assistance came from the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC) and was given to eight farmers of Barangays Consing and Canlusong whose crops and livestock were damaged by pest infestation and other diseases.

OIC-Municipal Agriculturist Efren Garcia Jr. led the turnover of checks to the beneficiaries, in the presence of Charlon Melendres, insurance underwriter of PCIC 3rd District; Bobby Paran, regional fisherfolk director of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR)- Region 6; Private Secretary Joel Antonio, Executive Assistant II Debbie Ann Monte, and two personnel of the Municipal Agriculture Office.

Garcia said Malacon has sponsored the premium fee of P50 for E. B. Magalona farmers and fisherfolk who want to insure their crops, livestock, and fishing boats.

He added that E. B. Magalona is the first and only local government unit in Negros Occidental that sponsors the full amount of accident insurance of farmers and fisherfolk.*
