The Sangguniang Bayan of EB Magalona in Negros Occidental has been adjudged 1st runner-up among the 19 municipalities of Negros Occidental, in the 2023 Provincial Local Legislative Award (LLA) of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

The awarding ceremony, dubbed, “BAGANI: A Local Governance Awards 2023,” was held yesterday at the Negros Residences in Bacolod City.

Receiving the plaque of recognition were Vice Mayor Eric Matulac, and Sangguniang Bayan Members Gilda Parcon, Edgardo Agravante Jr., Wyndel Depasucat, Jovie Madayag, Gelita Parcon, Reylan Gamboa Sr., Joey Pugales, and Isidro Gomed Jr.

The plaque was signed by Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson and DILG Provincial Director Teodora Sumagaysay.

Matulac thanked Mayor Marvin Malacon for his strong support to the Sanggunian.

For his part, Malacon congratulated the Sanggunian Bayan for passing meaningful, relevant, and responsive ordinances and resolutions, in support of the administration’s policies and programs that ultimately benefit Saraviahanons.

DILG EB Magalona head Atty. Pierra Fuentespina-Lamayo also extended her congratulations to the Sangguniang Bayan.

VALIDATION

The Sanggunian underwent an on-site validation and assessment as one of the provincial finalists in the 2023 Provincial LLA on September 11.

Started in 2006, the award was conceptualized by the Philippine Councilors’ League (PCL), in partnership with the DILG.

The LLA recognizes the exemplary performance of City and Municipal Sanggunians for legislating measures that help build the foundation of meaningful local administration and development.

The award accords official recognition to City and Municipal Sanggunians that excel in the enactment of ordinances or resolutions that ultimately contribute to the attainment of desirable socio-economic and environmental outcomes, a statement from the Public Information Office of the EB Magalona municipal government.*
