Education and employability

According to data from social networking platform LinkedIn Philippines, the skills required to work in the education sector has changed significantly since 2015, by up to 37.6 percent due to technological advancements, and even set to increase to 70 percent by 2030 because of artificial intelligence.

That skills gap will require significant upskilling programs for teachers and education workers, which a partnership between LinkedIn, which primarily connects professionals, and the Department of Education hopes to address.

“Filipino teachers must continuously upskill to keep up with the evolving landscape. Equipping educators with in-demand skills is crucial for their career resilience. It allows them to deliver a higher quality of classroom pedagogy, guiding job-ready graduates to build the skills needed in an AI-driven economy,” LinkedIn said during the launch of the partnership with DepEd.

Under the agreement, DepEd andLinkedIn would deploy strategies to enhance the employability of Filipino teachers as well as provide opportunities for upskilling.

In addition, the partnership will also DepEd to leverage LinkedIn’s platform to equip learners with job-ready skills.

A partnership between DepEd and a social networking platform that caters to employers, employees, and professionals, should not only help teachers upskill and get training, but also help the country’s education system in producing better quality graduates that are not only ready for employment in this fast changing world, but maybe even match them with employers that are looking for certain skills and competencies that a forward-looking and proactive school system should be able to provide.

Hopefully DepEd and LinkedIn Philippines can make this partnership work to pave the way for more collaborations with similar minded private organizations and businesses that can benefit the country’s struggling education system.*
