BY ADRIAN P. NEMES III

The Covid-19 Vaccination Council, chaired by Mayor Evelio Leonardia, has administered a total of 64,513 vaccine doses to Bacolod residents, Emergency Operations Center records showed yesterday.

Of the number, 21,290 were British-Swedish AstraZeneca vaccines while the rest were China-made Sinovac jabs.

So far, Bacolod has already received 83,540 doses of Sinovac and AstraZeneca vaccines from the national government since March. The latest shipment was that of 7,800 Sinovac doses on June 30.

Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran, who is the head of the local Inter-Agency Task Force, said that the number of Covid cases in Bacolod is unstable, which is why the city was placed under the General Community Quarantine status until July 30.

Familiaran said many businesses are affected by the new executive order of Leonardia on the elevation of the quarantine status of Bacolod, from Modified GCQ to GCQ.

But he said this is for the safety of everyone since the number of Covid cases in Bacolod remains erratic.

Meanwhile, Familiaran advised pregnant women to take necessary precautions and not to skip their pre-natal check-ups due to the rising cases of Covid among pregnant women in Bacolod.

He said that earlier this week, there were 27 pregnant women who tested positive for Covid-19 in just one day.*
