Escalante City nabs 2 titles at Gov. Cup chess tourney

The Abanse Negrense Governor’s Cup 2 on 2 Chess Team Championship, organized by Negros Occidental Provincial Government and the Provincial Sports Office, saw Escalante City nab two champion titles out of the four divisions in the team category. 

On December 8, aspiring young chess masters filled the Social Hall of the Provincial Capitol Building, competing for the championship award in four age group divisions – 16 and Under Boys, 16 and Under Girls, 12 and Under Boys, and 12 and Under Girls.

As a team, Escalante City earned two championship awards in the 12 and Under and 16 and Under Boys categories. Following Escalante in the ranking of the 12 and Under Boys was Silay City Team A in second place and Bacolod City Team A in third place. In the 12 and Under Girls, Bacolod City Team A was hailed as the champion, and Cadiz City’s Team A and Team B ranked second and third, respectively. 

In the 16 and Under Boys, Escalante City Team A got the title, followed by Bacolod City in second place and Escalante Team B in the third rank. Victorias City was the champion in the 16 and Under Girls division, while Bacolod Team B was in second place, and La Carlota City Team A landed in third place. 

For the individual winners, Escalante’s Jet Ivan Sadia and Bacolod Team A’s John Marco Agulto ranked first in the 12 and Under Boys category. Summer Ellaine Abanco of Bacolod Team A and Chanelle Valencia of Cadiz City A landed in first place in the 12 and Under Girls division. 

La Carlota Team A’s Noriel Yzabella Nabor and Bacolod Team B’s Aliyah Venice Aguilar were hailed the champions in the 16 and Under Girls category. Salle Andrie Jap (La Carlota) and Einre Mar Abanco (Bacolod) were the champions in the 16 and Under Boys category. 

Provincial Sports Office head Anthony Carlo Agustin led the opening ceremony, while Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson gave a short inspirational message and led the awarding ceremony of the tournament. The governor also took part in the ceremonial moves with Edrian Ballescas.*
