The City of Escalante in Negros Occidental celebrated its 28th edition of the Manlambus Festival with a spectacular display of dance, color, and community spirit on May 30.
The highlight of the day-long celebration was the highly anticipated street dance competition, which drew seven tribes representing clustered barangays vying for the top prize.
Tribu Malafenob emerged as the grand champion. The group, composed of the combined forces of Barangays Malasibog, Hda. Fe, and Jonobjonob, captivated both the judges and the crowd with their synchronized movements, creative choreography, and infectious merrymaking.
The champions brought home a cash prize of P40,000 and a trophy, but their victory did not stop there. Tribu Malafenob also swept several minor and special awards, including Best in Merry Making, Best in Choreography, Best Male Dancer, and Best Local Choreographer – a feat that drew thunderous applause from the audience.

Not far behind was Tribu Uswag Balintawak of Barangay Balintawak, which secured the first runner-up title. The group received P30,000 in cash and a trophy, along with the special Most Disciplined award – a testament to their well-organized presentation and graceful execution.
Meanwhile, Tribu Daang Lungsod of Barangay Old Poblacion, claimed the second runner-up position, taking home P20,000 in cash and a trophy. Their striking visual presentation earned them the Best in Costume award, while their standout performer was recognized as Best Female Dancer.
The awarding ceremony was led by Escalante Councilor Virgie Abong Pastor, who served as the 28th Manlambus Festival Director, alongside City Tourism Officer Peachy Mae Abibas.
This year’s theme was “Manlambus 28: Simple Vibes, Strong City.” Now in its 28th year, the festival has grown into one of Negros Occidental’s most anticipated cultural events, drawing visitors from across the province and beyond.*
