Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson expressed his full support for the establishment of the Metals and Engineering Innovation Center (MEIC) at the Technological University of the Philippines-Visayas (TUP-Visayas, in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).
The MEIC was inaugurated on February 6, marking a significant milestone for both the province and the region’s growing technological and industrial sectors, as well as research and development.
Lacson said that Negros Occidental recognizes the vital role that research and development play in industrialization and regional growth.
“The MEIC is a testament to what we can achieve when government, industry, and the academe come together,” the governor added.
“This initiative is more than just advancing metals and engineering; it is about equipping our people—our skilled workers, engineers, and entrepreneurs—with the tools and knowledge they need to compete in an evolving global landscape,” Lacson further said.
Present at the activity were Science and Technology Secretary Renato Solidum Jr., DOST VI Regional Director and DOST NIR Acting Regional Director, Rowen Gelonga, DOST Undersecretary for Regional Operations Sancho Mabborang, TUP President Reynaldo Ramos; DOST-MIRDC Executive Director Robert Dizon, and TUPV Campus Director Eric Malo-oy, among others.*
