A 42-year-old former convict was sent back behind bars after police seized P2,584,000 worth of suspected shabu during a drug sting in Purok Malipayon, Barangay 12, Bacolod City, yesterday afternoon, June 5.
Police identified the suspect as alias ‘Albert,’ also known as ‘Pol,’ an unemployed resident of Barangay Taculing, Bacolod City.
He is listed as a high-value individual on the watchlist of the Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council.
The operation was pulled off at around 12:24 p.m. by the City Drug Enforcement Unit (CDEU) of the Bacolod City Police Office, with backing from the City Intelligence Unit and Police Station 1.
According to Police Regional Office Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR), the suspect had a previous drug record, having been arrested for violating Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 back in May 2021. He was released in 2023 through a plea-bargaining agreement but allegedly went right back to pushing drugs this year.
Acting on tips from a confidential informant, a police poseur-buyer managed to score a sachet of shabu from the suspect using P1,000 in marked money, triggering the arrest.
Operatives recovered roughly 380 grams of suspected shabu, split across six heat-sealed plastic sachets and four knot-tied plastic bags.
“This operation prevented a substantial volume of dangerous drugs from reaching our communities and demonstrates PRO-NIR’s unwavering commitment to relentlessly pursue drug personalities,” Acting Regional Director Police Brigadier Gen. Romano Cardiño said.
The suspect is currently locked up at Police Station 1 and faces charges for the sale and possession of dangerous drugs under Sections 5 and 11 of RA 9165.*
