Former Mayor Francisco Nazareno wants his property that is presently occupied by a state university satellite campus in Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental, to be returned to him after the 10-year Deed of Usufruct already ended in 2017.
That has prompted incumbent Mayor Ella Celestina Garcia-Yulo to seek the help of Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, which was among the concerns she and her husband and Vice Mayor Felix Mathias Yulo, as well as members of the Sangguniang Bayan, raised during a courtesy call at the Provincial Capitol in Bacolod.
Yulo yesterday said the usufruct, which covers a two-hectare lot, signed by Nazareno and the management of Central Philippines State University (CPSU), only covered 10 years.
The 2-hectare CPSU satellite campus is located in Barangay 7, Moises Padilla. It offers education, information technology, and agri-business courses.
Yulo said more than 1,000 students in Moises Padilla and neighboring local government units are enrolled at the campus.
In an interview at the Provincial Capitol, Yulo said the property owner had repeatedly been asking for payment from CPSU, which prompted campus administrator Dr. Rosemarie Gequillana to seek the help of the municipal government.
During a dialogue, Yulo said that Governor Lacson has committed to help, as she raised the possibility that the property in question, where the school campus is located, could be purchased.
Yulo disclosed that the former mayor wants to sell the property occupied by CPSU campus.
Negros Occidental 5th district Rep. Emilio Bernardino Yulo also established a boarding house within the campus, to help defray the expenses of CPSU students.*
