The Kapatiran, formerly known as the Rebolusyonaryong Partido ng Manggagawa-Pilipinas/Revolutionary Proletarian Army-Alex Boncayao Brigade (RPM-P/RPA-ABB), has joined mounting calls for an immediate ceasefire between Israel government and Hamas militant fighters.

In a statement, Kapatiran, through secretary-general Alan Gozon, condemned the violence that continues to cause the loss of thousands of lives and suffering of more people in the divided land of Israel.

“We call on the Jewish and Palestinian peoples and all other human rights loving men and women to demand an immediate ceasefire,” it said.

The group also called on “the warring governments to seek a compromise on the conflict of territorial claims that would uphold and protect human rights and give justice for all the peoples in conflict.”

Among the casualties in the Israel and Hamas conflict was Negrense caregiver Loreta Alacre, who is scheduled to be buried on Nov. 5 at a public cemetery in Barangay Caduhaan, Cadiz City.

Kapatiran has pursued the work for peace and development since its formation in 2013, ushered by the RPM-P/RPA/ABB critique and denunciation of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army’s decades of undertaking the violent strategy of protracted people’s war.

“While the United Nations and other organizations of its instrumentalities like the World Health Organization are supposed to have been jointly organized and recognized to unify policies and implement actions for the promotion and protection of human rights, these have mainly been an arena for discourse,” the statement further said.

It added that the armed attack of the Hamas-led government of the Palestinian peoples in the Gaza Strip against a kibbutz and a civilian musical event have led the Israeli government to declare war against the whole Palestinian territory of the Gaza Strip.

“It is of utmost and urgent importance for the masses of the working class to exercise their right and power to ensure that their officials and government be held responsible and accountable in promoting and protecting human rights,” it also said.*
