A former member of the disbanded Revolutionary Proletarian Army-Alex Boncayao Brigade (RPA-ABB) was gunned down on Tuesday night by a still unidentified gunman at Purok Vanda in Barangay Santol, Binalbagan, Negros Occidental.
Police investigations showed that the 38-year-old victim was on his way to Purok Vanda from the barangay poblacion when he was waylaid and shot several times by the armed suspect.
The victim, who succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds, was reported by the police to have been declared dead on arrival at the Binalbagan infirmary.
Recovered from the scene of the incident were six fired caliber .45 cartridges.
The motive of the shooting incident is still being established by the Binalbagan Police Station.
The RPA-ABB, who broke away from the Communist Party of the Philippines – New People’s Army due to ideological differences, entered into peace talks with the government in the year 2000. This followed by the disbandment of the breakaway rebel group, in compliance with the provisions of peace agreement, after almost two decades.*
