Explosives and assorted ammunition were among the items recovered by troopers of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 6 during an encounter with suspected New People’s Army rebels in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental, yesterday.

Troopers of the 605th RMFB 6 engaged in armed clashes with seven suspected NPA rebels, while conducting security patrol in Sitio Masapod, Brgy. Nataban, San Carlos City.

After seven minutes of gunbattle, the suspected NPA rebels withdrew in different directions leaving behind three M-203 grenade launcher ammunition, three magazines of an M-16 rifle with ammunition, 15 live bullets of M1 garand rifle, detonating cords for explosives, CPP-NPA flag, assorted medical supplies, a battery pack and subversive documents.

Soldiers of the 79th Infantry Battalion also joined the RMFB 6 troopers in the conduct of pursuit operations against the fleeing rebels, Army spokesman Maj. Cenon Pancito III said yesterday.*
