Extended danger zone window to be strictly implemented

The Office of the Civil Defense in the Negros Island Region is strictly imposing the window period within the Kanlaon volcano extended danger zone, Donato Sermeno III, regional director, said on Friday.

“All accounted for,” Sermeno said, referring to those allowed to enter the zone to harvest their crops.

The agency is implementing a window period between 6 a.m. up to 4 p.m.

Sermeno added that they are monitoring the entry and return of persons from the area.

We ensure that they return to the evacuation centers in the evening, he said.

A weekly report is required from personnel manning the checkpoints, he added.

Meanwhile, the OCD reported a total of 12,286 families composed of 47,255 persons affected by the eruption of Kanlaon in 23 evacuation centers as of 8am of January 24.

The eruption also caused total damage to P129 million in Western Visayas, the agency said.

Ash fall from the volcano also affected 31 local governments in Regions 6 and 7.

Government agencies like the Office of the President, the Department of Social Services and Development (DSWD) and LGUs in the two regions have extended a total of P198 million in assistance to those affected.

The OCD and the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) have also given P4.3 million in assistance.*
