The wearing of face masks is once more mandatory for all officers and employees of the Talisay City government.

An office memorandum issued on April 25 by Talisay City Administrator Atty. Jose Jonathan Ealdama said that the wearing of face masks at all times, sanitizing, and observing good hygiene, is required in view of the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in Bacolod City and Negros Occidental.

Negros Occidental logged 63 active COVID-19 cases as of April 25, with 11 being treated at the Cadiz District Hospital, as reported by Provincial Administrator Atty. Rayfrando Diaz.

“I think we’re still good,” declared Diaz, although he reiterated the call of Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson calling for Negrenses not to be complacent by wearing face masks, especially for unvaccinated individuals.

The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management reported that another unvaccinated woman died due to COVID-19, bringing to nine the number of fatalities in Bacolod City, from January to April this year.

Active COVID-19 cases also reached 54 in the city, as of this time, with majority under home quarantine, CDRRMO head Dr. Anna Maria Laarni Pornan said.

The plan of Mayor Salvador Escalante Jr. to lift his issued order on the wearing face masks inside Cadiz City Hall also did not push through due to rising infections of the virus.

Negros Occidental is under Alert Level 2, while Bacolod City is Alert Level 1.

We have to do everything so that the alert level of Negros Occidental will not go up, Diaz said, as he stressed the campaign for more vaccination.*
