When the Amper family received their PSA-issued birth certificates on September 4, they broke the record for the most number of simultaneous birth registrations under a single household in Negros Occidental.
The eleven members of the family availed the Birth Registration Assistance Project (BRAP) of the Philippine Statistics Authority in partnership with the Local Government Unit of Kabankalan City, through the City Civil Registrar’s Office, included both parents and their nine children, surpassing the current record of seven registrations in one instance.
Julito Amper, the head of the family, expressed his gratitude towards the PSA Negros Occidental and the City Civil Registrar’s Office of Kabankalan City for making civil registration services more accessible to people from the far-flung areas of the province through their mobile registration initiatives.
He admits that their delayed birth registration is partly caused by the geographical difficulty of their home, pointing out that it takes roughly an hour and a half to reach the city center, which includes a 20-minute trek from their home to the barangay proper.
Representatives from the PSA Negros Occidental and the City Civil Registrar’s Office of Kabankalan City, headed by acting City Civil Registrar Monalisa Tabujara awarded the PSA-issued birth certificates of the family. The family also received tokens of appreciation from both the agency and the LGU.
BRAP is one of the many projects implemented by PSA in collaboration with the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and Local Government Unit (LGU) through the Provincial (HUC/Independent Component City) Government principally aims to increase civil registration especially in marginalized communities, particularly those belonging to the Indigenous People (IP), Muslim Filipinos, and the poorest sector to ensure that all births of Filipino are registered in Local Civil Registry Offices.*
