Feeding program ordinance passed

An ordinance institutionalizing the Bacolod City Feeding Program for undernourished children in barangays, public day care, kindergarten, and elementary schools, to combat hunger and undernutrition, was recently passed by the Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod.

The ordinance authored by Councilor Claudio Puentevella said the program will include several components/ coverage: supplemental feeding for day care children; school-based feeding program; milk feeding program; micro nutrient supplementation; health examination, vaccination, and deworming; gulayan sa paaralan and barangay; water, sanitation and hygiene; and Insumix feeding program.

The City of Bacolod will encourage private sector participation in the program, which will include among others, PTAs, private corporation, people’s non-governmental organizations (NGOs), it said.

The resolution said the City of Bacolod will allocate for the initial implementation of the ordinance to be sourced out of the 1 percent Local Council for the Protection of Children (LCPC fund). Thereafter, such sums as may be necessary for the continuous implementation of the ordinance will be included in the annual budget.*
