The city government of Sagay announces the official resumption of ferry operations following the granting of special permits to sail to members of the Sagay Island Ferryboat Operators Association, a press release from Sagay PIO said.
With the development, trips along the Old Sagay–Suyac Island and Carbin Reef routes are now open for bookings, restoring access for residents, workers, and visitors.
Meanwhile, Sagay City has expressed gratitude to the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) Region 6 following the issuance of permits for ferryboats serving Suyac and Molocaboc islands on April 1.
Mayor Leo Rafael “Bebo” Cueva said a total of nine safety certificates and nine special permits to sail were issued for tourist boats in Suyac Island and Carbin Reef, while three safety certificates and three special permits were granted to operators from Molocaboc Island.
The mayor said the permits allow the resumption of ferry operations, which are vital in transporting residents, workers, and tourists to and from the islands, key eco-tourism sites of the city.
Meanwhile, the Sagay City government acknowledged MARINA Region 6 Regional Director Bernardo Pollo, Franchising head Nicole Marie Amuan-Arpa and the mobile team led by Engr. Von Floyd Aranaz, Senior SOS Maritime Safety Services for facilitating the issuance of the permits.
Cueva said the team worked beyond regular hours, including during the holiday, to process the documents and ensure that ferry services could resume without delay.
Also recognized were Millenjoy Subega, Flora Mae Domingo, Aina May Caritativo, Rolend Zamora, Henna Grace Castor and Jesm Joy Mendez for their contribution to the initiative.
The city also extended its appreciation to Lt. Junior Grade Richelito Arbis, assistant station commander of the Philippine Coast Guard–Northern Negros Occidental, and PO1 John Catilo, PCG Deputy Commander CGSS Sagay and their team for their continued support in ensuring maritime safety.
The mayor said the resumption of ferry operations supports local livelihoods while reinforcing biodiversity protection, boosting tourism in Sagay Marine Reserve, and ensuring access to essential services for island communities.*
