Festival of Football picks to represent province in regionals

It was an exciting weekend in San Carlos City as they hosted the Festival of Football Provincial Qualifying 2023 on February 25-26.

The South Negros Team was hailed the champion in the Boys Under-15 (Born 2008-2009) category, while San Carlos City dominated the Boys Under-13 (Born 2010-2011) and the Girls Under-16 (Born 2007-2008) categories. And as for the Girls Under-14 (Born 2009-2020) category, the Central Negros Team bagged the championship title.

In the Boys Under-15 (Born 2008-2009) category, San Carlos City took the first runner-up rank, followed by the Central Negros and North Negros Teams as the second and third runner-up winners, respectively. For the Boys Under-13 (Born 2010-2011) category, the North Negros Team claimed the first runner-up spot, South Negros was the second runner-up, and the Central Negros Team was the third runner-up.

As for the runners-up in the Girls Under-16 (Born 2007-2008) age bracket, the Central Negros, South Negros, and the North Negros teams ranked the first, second and third runner-up winners, respectively. In the Girls Under-14 category, on the other hand, the North Negros Team landed in the first runner-up. 

Through the 2-day tournament, players with potential will be selected from the participating clubs, to form a Champion Team, which will represent the Negros Occidental Football Association (NOFA) in the Regional Football Festival in Iloilo.

The Festival of Football Provincial Qualifying 2023 was part of the ABANSE NEGRENSE Grassroots Sports Development Programs, in collaboration with the Philippine Football Federation (PFF), Japan Football Association (JFA), and the Negros Occidental Football Association (NOFA).

The football competition over the weekend was a success due to the continued support of First District Rep. Gerardo Valmayor Jr., San Carlos City Mayor Renato Gustilo, Vice Mayor Christopher Paul Carmona, its city officials, and its constituents. During the opening ceremony, Board Member and San Carlos City Negros Football Club (SCCNFC) president Pocholo Yuvienco delivered a welcome address, while SCCNFC vice president Miggy Valmayor gave an inspirational message. SCCNFC general secretary Tata Parel also graced the event.

The Festival of Football Provincial Qualifying 2023 was also supported by Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, Provincial Sports Office head Anthony Carlo Agustin, and NOFA president Ricardo Yanson Jr.*
