The implementation of the nationwide fiber optic cable network project is now underway in Bacolod City.
This was confirmed by City Administrator Em Ang, who said that the Department of Information and Communications Technology, in partnership with the Philippines Fiber Optic Cable Network Ltd. Inc., will start the underground installation of fiber optic cable passing through some major streets after the joint venture secured the approval of the city government for a permit to excavate.
She said that Mayor Evelio Leonardia and other city officials have committed to support and assist in fast-tracking the process of obtaining relevant permits, approvals, and clearances for the project.
The project, once completed, will improve the ICT services and internet connectivity, especially during this period of online learning system and work-from-home arrangements, she said.
On June 17, Interior Secretary Eduardo Año issued a memorandum directing the governors, mayors, provincial board, city and municipal councils, barangay captains, the Bureau of Fire Protection, and other concerned agencies to assist in the implementation of the nationwide fiber optic cable network project.
He said the project is seen to improve the quality of the overall infrastructure development and communication services in the country and support the National Broadband Network.*
