
The Fil-Sino Athletic Club held its first Accelera Basketball Cup, named after its sponsor, Accelera Radial Philippines. The opening ceremony was attended by brand Deputy Manager Victoriano Lopez and the officers and players of Fil-Sino Athletic Club, led by their President Jimmy Yap.
The participating teams are Ultra 5, IOTA-ST68, ECO Plush, M/T-01, Alpha, Omikron-AT, Ultra 3, PHI-R, 651 Sport, Badak X-treme and Omikron-CT. Five games were played after the ceremony in honor of the tournament’s new sponsor.
Ultra 3 played against PHI-R in the 39-below category, where the former had a strong start to build a 7-point lead at the end of the first quarter. PHI-R managed to keep up with the Ultras during the second quarter, but entered halftime down by 4 points, 51-47.
The Ultras kept their foot on the gas as they accelerated their game in the next two quarters and held on to a convincing 105-100 win. Michael Calibo took the player of the game honors after sinking 5 triples to make up the bulk of his 19 points.
In the 40-up category. M/T-01 triumphed in a close game against Eco Plush, ending with a final score of 66-65. Down by 2 points, Jason Yap converted the three-point play after his driving layup was fouled with 5 seconds left in the game. In the final play, the Ecos inbound was anticipated, losing the chance to win the game.
Stunned, they accepted defeat as M/T-01 celebrated a thrilling first win of the conference in. Harry Siendo grabbed the player of the game honors with 14 points.
In other games, Ultra 5 defeated IOTA, 81-65, and Alpha came out victorious against Omikron AT, 72-69.*
