Fil-Sino 3rd Michael Miranda Cup underway

The Fil-Sino athletic club opened its 3rd Michael Miranda Memorial Basketball Tournament at the Bacolod Tay Tung Po Hang Gym on January 25, sponsored by Asia Brewery Inc.

The opening ceremony was attended by Christine Miranda the brand’s officers, Rhonel Mascuńana – Area Manager, Noel Cua – Territory Development Supervisor, and the officers and members of Fil-Sino Athletic Club, led by their President Jimmy Yap.

The participating teams are Absolute, Asahi, BeerNaBeer, Pascual Greek Style, Cobra Energy Drink, Heineken, Summit, Tanduay Ice, Tiger Black, and Vitamilk.  Five games were played during the ceremony to honor the sponsor.  

Absolute defeated Asahi 115-91 in the first game where Asahi jumped out to a strong start and led after one quarter27-23. Absolute turned it up in the second and outscored the former 25-19, in the quarter to take the lead by 2 points going into the break.

Absolute stayed in control through the third and managed to continue their run in the final ten minutes of the game to grab their first win of the tournament. Jessie Moreño took the player of the game honors after scoring 22 points. Yanyan Dy and Randy Colonia followed with 20 points apiece, while Ronald Delada delivered 19 points. Kim Dimaranan led Asahi with 22 points, followed by Albert Magdato with 16, and RJ Guerrero notched 14 points.

In other games, Pascual Greek Style defeated Tiger Black 102-89, Heineken defeated Summit 79-40. Cobra Energy Drink defeated Tanduay Ice 98 – 95, and BeerNaBeer defeated Vitamilk 72-52.*
