The Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) is set to distribute financial assistance of P2,000 each on February 13, to 800 more hog raisers who were affected by the African Swine Fever and other swine diseases in Negros Occidental.

These are hog raisers who suffered losses due to swine deaths.

Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer in Charge Chiqui Gonzales yesterday said that the latest batch of 800 beneficiaries who will be receiving financial aid are hog raisers affected in Valladolid, Hinigaran, and San Enrique.

The Negros Occidental provincial government has allocated P10 million for financial assistance to 5,000 hog raisers in the province.

Gonzales said the distribution of financial assistance to 196 beneficiaries in Victorias City and 200 more in Ilog has already been approved. This was on top of the 800 beneficiaries who will receive the cash aid this month, she added.

In December last year, PSDWO also distributed similar financial aid to 800 hog raisers in six barangays in Ilog town, according to Gonzales.

Negros Occidental, which has a P6-billion swine industry, recorded almost 18,000 hog deaths in 20 areas since April last year. Losses to the industry were estimated at around P200 million.

As of this time, the Provincial Veterinarian Office reports that they have not monitored any resurgence of ASF and related swine diseases.*
