An estimated P5.2 million in properties went up in flames yesterday at a condominium being constructed at the Upper East of Megaworld in Barangay 41, Bacolod City.
Initial investigation of the Bureau of Fire into the fire indicated that it broke out at Two Regis Condominium, almost noon yesterday, and was placed under control after about 30 minutes.
The blaze, according to BFP, partially damaged the 3rd and 4th floors of the condominium, while no one was reported hurt.
A statement issued by the Megaworld’s contractor, MRK Construction, said that the fire broke out at 11:42 a.m. on Thursday, at a portion of the 3rd and 4th floor levels of the construction site, and fire authorities declared fire out at 12:34 p.m.
The building is still under the responsibility of our company, and we are closely coordinating with the developer, Megaworld, as well as with the local fire authorities, as to what caused the fire.
We will cooperate in the investigation of this incident, it added.
Bacolod Fire Marshal Chief Insp. Stephen Jardeleza said they are now gathering statements from the workers involved in the project, as well as circumstantial evidence found in the area to determine the origin of the fire.
The fire destroyed construction and other combustible materials inside the building. None was injured during the incident that happened about noontime yesterday because the workers went on a lunch break, he said.
Jardeleza thanked volunteer fire brigades from Chamber and Amity, including barangay volunteers who responded to the fire incident.
In December last year, a fire also hit the warehouse of Multitrade Corporation, which is also at the Megaworld Upper East in Bacolod City, where damage was estimated at P14 million.*
